About me and my brand...
Hi, I'm Paul and I'm a Scottish photographer living in Hamilton, near Glasgow.
My love of photography came to me a little later in life. It was born out of having children and attempting to document everything they did as they quickly grew up. Over the years, it has become more than a tool used to record my children's lives, it's become a real passion and one that I'd be lost without.
I'm completely self-taught and I'm still learning every day. I mainly photograph landscape scenes, both rural and urban, however, I will try my hand at any genre. As well as photography, I have a real passion for Scotland's history, especially its old buildings and forgotten estates. Visiting lost and forgotten history is a favourite pastime of mine. Finding something that few people know about or photographing something you know may not be there for future generations is very rewarding. When time permits, I love getting into the countryside and exploring, mainly around central or lowland Scotland and especially around the Clyde Valley area. There's something calming and soothing about being outside and one with nature, actually, there's something about Scotland, the hills, the glens, the vast open fields, it's just magical.
View Through the Lens Photography was created by me with the intention of sharing my love of Scotland with those around the world who love it just as much as I do. The hope was, that by sharing my experiences and my images, I could inspire other people. Who knows, maybe my art will inspire you to come and visit Scotland and see this majestic land for yourself.
When I started my website and Facebook group, I didn't want to follow the photography herd and name the brand 'paulwilkinsonphotography' or something similar, so I chose a name that meant something to me. My family would tell you, everywhere I go, I've got a camera to my eye, so, "View Through the Lens" was born.
As I said above, I want to promote Scotland and inspire others but I also want to help future photographers find their passion. Photography doesn't have to be expensive, you don't need the biggest and best camera. All you require is passion, an eye for composition and a willingness to learn. Whether you live in a concrete jungle or the middle of a field, there's always an image to be had. And, I want to help you find it.
Although I grew up in Scotland and I've visited much of it, there's still so much more for me to see. For every place I've visited so far, there are many more locations that I've still to photograph. Remember to keep checking back, who knows where I'll have been and what photos I'll have taken!
